Multipass hollow fiber membrane modules for membrane distillation

چکیده
Membrane distillation (MD) is an interesting process for desalination; however high thermal energy consumption remains one of the main obstacles in its widespread adoption. The current study presents multipass hollow fiber membrane modules to improve efficiency MD process. Fundamentally three module designs are considered: conventional shell and tube (fiber) pass (A), 1 multiple passes (B/C) equal but (D). performance proposed analyzed as a function length each pass, number operating conditions by using Aspen Plus simulator. results demonstrate that traditional design A yields highest flux — up 92 % higher than D. On other hand, D most shows 35 less single same length. Single show D; however, their specific among all investigated. pressure drop was marginally (1.5 %) modules.

On Designing of Membrane Thickness and Thermal Conductivity for Large Scale Membrane Distillation Modules
Membrane distillation has the potential to concentrate solutions to their saturation level, thus offering the possibility to recover valuable salts from the solutions. The process performance and stability, however, is strongly dependent upon the features of membranes applied. In addition, several other parameters, membrane thickness and thermal conductivity significantly affect the process per...
متن کاملHollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor for COD Biodegradation of Tapioca Wastewater
The present work studied the application of membrane bioreactor (MBR) for tapioca wastewater processing that contained chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranging from 4000-9000 mg/L. A preliminary study was initially conducted in order to evaluate membrane performance with respect to its flux with MLSS concentration ranging from 4,500 to 10,500 mg/L. It was clear that fouling was observed during the ...
متن کاملPVDF Hollow Fiber and Nano Fiber Membranes for Fresh Water Reclamation using Membrane Distillation
Polyvinylidine fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber and nanofibrous membranes are engineered and successfully fabricated using dry-jet wet spinning and electrospinning techniques, respectively. Fabricated membranes are characterized for their morphology, average pore size, pore size distribution, nanofiber diameter distribution, thickness and water contact angle. Direct contact membrane distillation (D...
